We've all known for a while that Alan was going to Korea. At least I did. There was no possible way he could not receive the Fulbright Scholarship he applied for. What surprised me was his agreement to have me come along too. A year ago, I never would have imagined that my life would take this course. But then vary rapidly, things began to change. Alan proposed to me at the Cherry Blossom Festival in D.C. this year and we are now about to be married and move off to a brand new country together. It's a little scary.
Now that I'm going to Korea too, the first step for me was how to get there. Alan's Fulbright could allow me to accompany him as a dependent. But how boring would that be! So what am I going to do? I'm teaching English to kindergarten kids. I've heard a lot of good things about teaching ESL in foreign countries and Alan helped me find an excellent recruiting site to apply through. Dan and Aggie at www.teacheslkorea.com have been amazing throughout this entire process and I can't thank them enough for helping me land a job. I've signed the contract and will be working at 병영자연유치원 in Ulsan. The next step is to get all of my documents ready and send them over to get my visa. Alan and I are also in the process of learning Korean. Talk to me in Korean is a podcast program that has helped us out a lot. I think I'm well on my way to speaking fluent Korean.
If these preparations were all we had to take care, life would be easy. But we have a wedding to plan too. It's actually been going very well. It's just trying to do everything while also maintaining your daily routine as well that makes it difficult. But we have a venue, pastor, DJ, bridesmaid dresses, my dress, tuxes, invitations sent out, and possibly a cake too. Just a few details left. Bouquets, centerpieces, and working on our dances. Maybe a few other things here or there. Everything's gone very smoothly.
I'm very excited to start our new life together.
